Vaccinations are very important to staying healthy in Arizona. East Valley Wellness Center in Gilbert can provide many vaccinations to protect yourself and your family. Vaccinations safely and effectively use a small amount of a weakened virus or bacteria to prevent infection by that very virus or bacteria.


When you get an immunization, you're injected with a weakened form of a disease. This triggers your body's immune response, causing it to produce antibodies to that particular ailment. Immunizations protect us from serious diseases and also prevent the spread of those diseases to others. Over the years immunizations have thwarted epidemics of once common infectious diseases such as measles, mumps, and tetanus. And because of immunizations we've seen the near eradication of others, such as polio and smallpox.

Some vaccines need to be given only once; others require updates or "boosters" to maintain successful immunization and continued protection against disease.



Some Vaccinations Available at our Arizona Family Practice are:

Menactra (meningitis vaccine) - strongly recommended for incoming Freshmen living in the dorms
Tetanus (Td booster) - recommended every 10 years, covers tetanus and diptheria
OR
New Tetanus (Tdap booster) - recommended every 10 years, covers tetanus, diptheria, and pertussis
TB skin test - required for some schools and jobs
Gardasil (HPV or Human Papilloma Virus vaccine) - recommended for all females between ages 9y and 26y to provide protection from genital warts and cervical cancer
Hepatitis B - recommended for all adults at high risk who have not already had this vaccine
Hepatitis A - recommended for travel to some countries and for those living in some communities in the United States
Influenza - recommended yearly in the Fall for certain people (elderly, weakened immune systems, lung and/or heart disease) and to those that might transmit disease to high-risk persons
Varicella (chicken pox) - recommended for people without history of chicken pox disease
MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) - recommended for everyone without history of measles or 2 doses of vaccine (those born prior to 1957 are assumed immune)
